How to Power Your Self-Esteem Engine - Part 2

In Part 1 of this article I got into the impact your self esteem has on your attitude and all that you do. You are the magic bullet. You are stimulated by all the senses but the visual impact is almost always the most significant. The reality is you do what you see more than what you hear. I know my wife reminds me of that one. It only makes sense then to watch what you watch.

It is important to watch what you watch but it is also important to watch what you read. Reading is activity for the mind. Sadly many adults after finishing school get out of the habit of reading. When you read statistics regarding illiteracy levels in North America it is startling. Many people have never been given the opportunity to learn to read. Imagine what they are missing. When you choose not to read you have no advantage over those who cannot. It is also important to consider what to read. A book that is motivational, inspirational or educational is a great place to start. When you fill your mind with positive thoughts good things tend to happen.

Another way to fuel your self-esteem engine is with activity. Activity gives you more energy and creates greater clarity. A walk in the park, a swim at a pool, a sport you enjoy all have a positive effect on your self-esteem engine. Remember to consult with your doctor before starting any activity program. As little as 20 minutes of activity a day will give you that extra energy to achieve your goals. The word activity seems so much nicer than that other word. You know the one I mean

One of the greatest challenges you face when you focus on your self-esteem is how others will react. Yes it is true that misery loves company and others want to drag you back to their comfort zone. Have you ever met that person who's glass is always half empty. You know the type, 'psychic bleeders' who love to relive failures and disappointments of the past, one more time. They remind you of the lost sale, they remind you of a lost relationship and they remind you of past failures. Wouldn't it be nice if they remembered your success with such clarity?

The reality is, there are people in life who give you energy and there are those who take it away. Sometimes these negative forces can be friends and associates. You have a choice to make? Do you want to be like the rest or be like the best? In order to be the best, you need to surround yourself with winners, not whiners. This may result in severing relationships that drag you down so you can spend more time with enthusiastic, supportive people. Enthusiasm defies the laws of mathematics for when you divide it will multiply. Surround yourself with positive forces whenever you can.

Your self esteem is your responsibility. You are the magic bullet. You owe it to yourself and others to plant new seeds in your mind. Positive seeds yield a positive crop but some negative seeds may have been planted already. It's time to replace the bad seeds with good ones. It's time to start now. It's never been later than it is right now. Thanks for tuning in. I'll see you in my next article.
